Henna dye colours both the skin and the brow hairs. This is different from regular brow tints, which only colour the hairs themselves. The result is a fuller, more defined brow shape that includes a stain on the skin underneath.
How it works
The dye is mixed and applied directly to the brow area, following the client's chosen shape. Once removed, the colour will look quite dark at first. This is normal. Henna oxidises over the following 24 to 48 hours, settling into a softer, more natural tone as it sets.
How long it lasts
The skin stain can last up to 14 days, and can appear anywhere from a soft shadow to a strong stain depending on how long it's left on and the client's skin type. The colour on the brow hairs themselves lasts longer, up to 6 weeks.
Who it suits
Henna dye works well for people with sparse or thin brows, since the skin stain fills in visible gaps and creates the look of more hair. It also suits people with fair or grey brow hairs who want more definition, and anyone after a fuller brow without committing to microblading or tattooing. Because the colour is temporary and fades naturally, it's a good option for clients who want to trial a bolder brow shape before considering something more permanent.
Who should be cautious
Clients with a known sensitivity to henna or plant based dyes should avoid this treatment. A patch test 24 to 48 hours beforehand is recommended for anyone trying it for the first time. Very oily skin can also cause the stain to fade faster than average, so results vary person to person.
